The key character of Song of the Bandits is Lee Yoon (played by actor Kim Nam Gil). He was once a slave, then became a Japanese soldier and made many great contributions. But because of the torment of the crimes he committed during the war, Lee Yoon decided to give up glory and form a gang of robbers determined to refuse repression and hardship. The female lead is lady Nam Hee Shin (played by actress Seohyun). She is an independence activist but hides under the identity of a Japanese railway manager. On that dangerous journey to find independence and freedom, they met and developed a special relationship.
